Too many people, who are considered to be social media “experts”, have got it all wrong. And unfortunately when people read blogs, read the news or listen to their friends, they believe that email marketing is dead and that the new kid in town is Social Media (you know, Facebook, twitter, linked in, etc). While these “new kids” are here, what you need to make more money for your business is an email marketing strategy.
Now I am not saying that these social media sites are not useful and important, but at this point, they are not replacing email. And I believe, as well as many others, that social media will never replace email, especially in business activities.
As I’m sitting here at my desk writing this article, I have come to realize that all too many people have taken the hook, line & sinker and all but thrown out email as a marketing tool as they look to the future. These news reports and blogs are providing you with misinformation and that misinformation may cost you a lot of money.
You see while social media sites are important, nothing comes close to the relationship building ability and the return on investment that email provides. The biggest issue with these posts is that they are dealing with personal use of email, not business use. Unfortunately, in the media, it all gets lumped together and makes it seem that email has lost its mojo and is not longer useful. It could be no further from the truth. Having an email marketing strategy is what is going to move your business ahead of your competition and increase your sales, not using social media sites (even though these sites have their uses).
Let’s separate the email discussion from personal use of email to business use of email, specifically for those businesses that want to communicate & build a trusting relationship with their customers and prospects and increase sales. It is this use of your business that email is king. Let me explain why.

2. Email provides you with a huge amount of metric data.
3. Email can be (and should be) permission based
4. Email is easy to implement
5. Email is highly targeted
6. Email is a great relationship builder
7. Email provides a high response rate
8. The Email list you create is an asset
